Two sentenced to eight months and two years in prison for cocaine, cannabis in Cyprus

On Wednesday, the British Bases Court in Dhekelia, Cyprus sentenced a Greek Cypriot man to eight months in prison following his arrest for possession of cocaine and cannabis in the Ayios Nikolaos area last October.

Bases Police Superintendent Dinos Petrou stated, “This sentence shows our commitment to bringing drug dealers to justice, and our efforts will continue unabated.”

The 47-year-old was caught with 2.5 grams of cocaine, 100 grams of cannabis, and was also charged with deliberately destroying evidence by disposing of cannabis.

He was found guilty on all counts on June 20.

The man remained in custody prior to his court appearance, as the Bases Police carried on with their investigation.

Petrou added that the sentence sends a clear warning to anyone involved in such criminal activities.

In a similar situation, a 57-year-old man was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of possessing two kilograms of cannabis, as well as a “small amount” of cocaine.

The sentence was handed down at the Famagusta permanent criminal court in Paralimni.

The man had been arrested on February 1 after a search of his car in Larnaca had turned up the cannabis and the cocaine.
