Israeli ambassador to Nicosia expresses concern over ‘unusual antisemitic rhetoric’ in Cyprus
On Wednesday, Israel’s ambassador to Cyprus, Oren Anolik, voiced concern about what he described as a recent surge in “antisemitic rhetoric” within Cyprus’ public discourse.
He stated in a written message, “What endangers democracy is not diversity itself, but the spread of harmful myths targeting entire communities. Such actions are not political opinions; they amount to hate speech.”
Anolik highlighted the “strong and lasting friendship” between Cyprus and Israel and underscored that safeguarding religious freedom is a core strength of Cyprus, not merely a concession.
He urged all responsible figures in public life to denounce antisemitic language, fear-mongering, and collective demonization, emphasizing that antisemitism should have no place in society.
However, Anolik did not specify the particular statements or events he was referencing in his comments.
