Jay-Jay Okocha explains why he set financial boundaries for family members
Former Super Eagles captain, Jay-Jay Okocha, has revealed that he established clear financial boundaries with his family members to ensure the support he provided was put to good use.
Speaking on the matter, Okocha said he once convened a family meeting where he informed his relatives that any money he gave them to start or expand a business was expected to yield positive results.
According to him, he first ensured that members of his family had decent accommodation before providing financial assistance for business ventures.
"I once called a family meeting and told my relatives that the money I give them for business must not fail. I even bought houses for them first, so at least they will not be homeless. That way, when I retire, nobody will disturb me," he said.
The football legend explained that providing homes for his relatives was aimed at eliminating concerns about shelter, while the business support was intended to help them become financially independent.
Okocha added that his objective was to empower his family members to become self-reliant, thereby enabling him to enjoy his retirement without being burdened by frequent financial requests.
