Keyamo gives Peter Obi 7-days ultimatum to apologize over airport parking

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has given the NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi a seven-day ultimatum to publicly apologise to airport officials and pay a N25,000 parking fine over an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Keyamo defended the actions of airport officials in the incident involving Peter Obi's vehicle, insisting that the enforcement measures were carried out in line with established aviation safety regulations.

Keyamo explained that the driver initially returned to the vehicle before abandoning it again, prompting airport security personnel to clamp its tyres. He noted that officials were unaware at the time that the vehicle belonged to Obi.

According to the minister, the driver later contacted Obi, who subsequently spoke with the airport manager and requested that the vehicle be released. The vehicle was eventually released without the payment of the stipulated N25,000 penalty.

Keyamo maintained that leaving a vehicle unattended for about 30 minutes in a restricted airport zone constituted a serious security breach and violated aviation safety rules.

He accused Obi of politicising an issue that had already been resolved, stressing that airport officials were merely carrying out their duties by enforcing existing regulations.

The minister further called on Obi to publicly apologise to the airport officials involved and voluntarily pay the outstanding N25,000 fine within seven days.

He warned that failure to comply would compel the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to take further action in accordance with its regulations.
