Two young men broke into apartment, stole money and wristwatch: Went shopping with the stolen money

Kalkanlı, TRNC – May 17, 2025 — Two suspects, identified as S.E. and S.C.E., have been remanded in custody for three days after allegedly breaking into a home in Kalkanlı and stealing a wristwatch and cash.

During a court hearing, Police stated that on May 16, between 5:50 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., the suspects forcibly entered a residence belonging to one M.Ö. by breaking the glass window of a locked wooden door and tampering with the lock. 

Once inside, the suspects reportedly stole a Casio wristwatch from the living room and a wallet containing ₺5,000 and £50 in cash from the back pocket of a pair of pants hanging in the bathroom.

Police investigations identified a suspicious vehicle, leaving the scene. The suspects were found to be occupants of the vehicle. During a search of S.E.’s bag, officers recovered ₺654.75 in cash and the stolen Casio wristwatch, which were seized as evidence.

Further inquiries revealed that the suspects had spent ₺3,300 on groceries at a supermarket in Gönyeli and purchased ₺200 worth of fuel at a nearby petrol station. 

The police also confirmed that both suspects gave voluntary statements admitting to the burglary, which have been corroborated. However, some of the stolen money remains unaccounted for.

Citing the need to complete the investigation, verify the suspects' statements, and locate the missing funds, the police requested an initial three-day detention.
