Suspicious behavior leads to drug arrest in Güzelyurt

Güzelyurt, TRNC – May 17, 2025 — A routine traffic inspection on Köprülüzade Street in Güzelyurt led to the arrest of a local resident after police discovered a substance believed to be synthetic cannabinoid in his possession.

The driver of a vehicle identified only as YG, was stopped by traffic officers from the Güzelyurt Police Department around 10:20 p.m. on May 16. 

According to testimony provided in court by the Police, Doğan began exhibiting suspicious behavior during the stop, prompting officers to conduct a search of the vehicle.

The search revealed a partially smoked cigarette butt, believed to contain a mixture of tobacco and synthetic cannabinoid, located on the front passenger side floor mat. The cigarette was seized as evidence, and the suspect was arrested on the spot.

The police stated that the investigation is in its initial phase. The seized item will be sent for forensic analysis, and the suspect’s statements will be verified as part of the inquiry. As a result, police requested a three-day detention to allow for further investigation.
