Kyrenia, TRNC – May 17, 2025 — Authorities at the Kyrenia Tourism Port have detained two individuals in separate incidents for possession of illegal substances and undeclared goods, following intensified inspections by the Police Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Directorate.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, 27-year-old R.E. was arrested around 9:00 a.m. on Friday May 16 upon arrival in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), after narcotics detection dog “Koko” reacted during a routine check.

A subsequent search of R.E. and his belongings revealed approximately 0.5 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, five undeclared electronic cigarettes, as well as 19 pills and 21 sachets of gels claimed to be sexual performance enhancers, in violation of the country’s Pharmaceutical and Pharmacy Law. The items were seized as evidence, and R.E. was taken into custody.

In a separate inspection conducted the same day, 29-year-old R.A., who also entered the country through the Kyrenia Tourism Port, was found in possession of seven undeclared electronic cigarettes and seven packets of sexual enhancement gel. These items were also confiscated, and R.A. was arrested on similar charges.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict border controls and preventing the illegal importation of drugs and unauthorized goods. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
