Man arrested for stealing from a residence he visited as a guest in north Cyprus
Değirmenlik, TRNC – May 17, 2025 — An individual, a resident of Kyrenia, has been remanded in custody for three days following his arrest in connection with a theft that allegedly occurred while he was a guest at a residence in Değirmenlik.
The suspect identified as YU appeared before the court on Saturday after being accused of stealing cash from the home of an individual identified.
According to police statement, on the evening of May 15 at approximately 6:30 p.m., the suspect YU, was visiting a residence in Değirmenlik when he allegedly stole €4,000, £2,600, and ₺7,000 in cash from the bedroom of the homeowner.
Following a formal complaint, YU was located and arrested in Değirmenlik under a detention order. During questioning, he claimed to have left the stolen money at the home of a friend in Kyrenia. A subsequent search of that residence led to the discovery of £400 and €1,500 in cash, which were seized as evidence.
The police emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages and that the suspect’s statement needs to be verified. He requested that the suspect remain in custody for an initial three-day period to facilitate further inquiries.
In a brief statement to the court, YU expressed remorse for his actions.
