Gönyeli — Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of a mobile phone belonging to Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Tufan Erhürman.
The suspects, identified as F.Ö. and D.Ö., were taken into custody by police and brought before a court on Monday May 26.
According to police testimony presented in court, the incident occurred on the evening of Saturday May 24 in a restaurant located in Gönyeli. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the suspects stealing the mobile device from the restaurant where Erhürman was dining.
Despite the arrests, authorities stated that the mobile phone has not yet been recovered and remains missing. The investigation is ongoing, and police have requested a three-day detention period for the suspects to continue their inquiries.
During the court proceedings, the accused claimed they had found the phone and had waited for someone to call so it could be returned. They also mentioned that the device’s screen was broken.
The presiding judge reviewed the available evidence and approved the police request, ordering that the suspects remain in custody for three more days while the investigation continues.
The incident has drawn public attention, given the high profile of the alleged victim, CTP leader Tufan Erhürman. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the missing phone to come forward.
