“Oh, what beautiful hips you have”: 60-year-old man remanded in custody for sexual harassment

A 60-year-old man identified as D.B. has been remanded in custody for up to 20 days after allegedly verbally sexually harassing a woman in a public area in Demirhan north Cyprus.

The incident occurred on April 29, 2025, in the parking area of Erülkü Supermarket. The suspect has also had his work permit revoked following the incident.

Appearing before the Lefkoşa District Court, the suspect faced charges of sexual harassment. Police officer who presented the facts of the case to the court, stated that D.B. made an inappropriate comment toward a 32-year-old woman, saying, “Oh, what beautiful hips you have”, while they were both walking in the supermarket’s parking area.

Following the woman's complaint, D.B. was arrested the same day and subsequently provided a voluntary statement on April 30, 2025, which police characterized as a confession. The suspect was also examined by a medical doctor as part of the investigation procedures.

According to the police, surveillance footage from the scene was reviewed and sufficient evidence was obtained to support the allegations. 

The noting that the investigation has been completed said D.B., a Turkish national who was residing in the TRNC on a work permit, has since been terminated from his job, and his work permit has been officially cancelled as a result of the incident.

After evaluating the evidence presented, the judge ordered that the suspect be remanded at the central prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
