Man threatened and assaulted two people with a licensed firearm
Man who was arrested on charges of pointing a licensed firearm at two individuals and physically assaulting them, has been released on bail pending trial.
The incident took place in Alsancak on the evening of April 30, 2025.
Police officer who presented the case in court, testified that the suspect named only as BAÇ approached his estranged wife, İ.Ş., who was waiting outside the apartment of a mutual acquaintance. Allegedly, he drew a registered Canik TP-9 pistol, chambered a round, pointed it at her, and proceeded to assault her while issuing threats.
The confrontation escalated when BAÇ, reportedly asking “Are you Burak’s father?”, turned the loaded weapon on a neighbor, L.S. (32), who was exiting the building. The suspect allegedly repeated the question, pointed the firearm at L.S., assaulted him, and threatened him with violence.
Police responded promptly to the scene and arrested BAÇ. The licensed firearm and 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition were seized as evidence.
According to the police, the investigation has been completed, and formal charges have been filed. The accused has denied the allegations.
Presiding judge ruled that the suspect may remain free pending trial under the following bail conditions: he is banned from leaving the country, report to the police once per month, pay 30,000 TL cash deposit, and bring a reputable TRNC citizen to sign a surety bond valued at 1 million TL.
The court emphasized that the measures are in place to ensure the suspect’s attendance at future legal proceedings.
