TEKNOFEST begins today in northern Cyprus

The much-anticipated TEKNOFEST event in northern Cyprus opens its doors today.

The event will officially begin with a ceremony at 1:00 pm on Thursday May 1.

For the first time, the festival is being held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), where institutions and organisations under the umbrella of the Republic of Türkiye’s Ministry of Industry and Technology will share their current projects and scientific expertise.

Organised with the vision of bringing science and technology together with society, TEKNOFEST is taking place this year for the first time in the TRNC.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, the festival is being organized by the Ministry and the Türkiye Technology Team Foundation under the auspices of the TRNC Presidency, and will be held at the site of the former Ercan Airport.

TEKNOFEST TRNC, which opened its doors to visitors today and will continue until Sunday, May 4.

The event is being held to bring science and technology closer to the public.

Within the festival area, the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology will be represented by several affiliated institutions, including the Turkish Space Agency, KOSGEB, development agencies, the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, and the Turkish Standards Institute.

These institutions will present their projects and hold events, exhibitions, and workshops across a wide range of fields—from defence industry to artificial intelligence, from space research to domestically developed production technologies.

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) will also have a main booth consisting of two thematic tents, which will connect visitors with the world of science and technology.

The TÜBİTAK stand will host scientific content, experimental workshops, technology demonstrations, and knowledge competitions geared toward visitors of all ages.

As part of the event, 86 finalist teams will showcase their projects at the primary, secondary, high school, and university levels. Project evaluations will take place in four jury rooms during the first three days of the festival.

Eight teams from Azerbaijan, Pakistan, the TRNC, and Afghanistan will also participate in the competition.

In the dedicated student tent where approximately 260 students will be present, participants will present their projects and share their work with visitors.

TEKNOFEST TRNC attracted more than 47,000 applicants from 22 different countries, and competitions will be held across 6 main and 13 subcategories.

As part of TEKNOFEST TRNC, demonstration flights will be carried out by SOLOTÜRK, the Turkish Stars (Türk Yıldızları), F-4 fighter jets, ATAK helicopters, HÜRKUŞ, Bayraktar TB2, and AKINCI unmanned aerial vehicles.
