Noise complaint leads to arrest of five illegal residents in Gönyeli
Gönyeli, North Cyprus – Five foreign nationals residing illegally in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) were taken into custody late Wednesday night after police responded to a noise complaint in Gönyeli with the authorities confirming that all five individuals were residing in the country without valid permits.
According to a statement from the Gönyeli Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:30 PM on May 21 when officers responded to a disturbance reported at an apartment on Yaşar Kemal Street. Upon arrival, they discovered five Bangladeshi nationals inside the residence.
The individuals identified by initials as Ş.H. (39), A.R. (22), M.J. (35), S.H. (26), and A.H. (21) — had overstayed their legal residence in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by significant periods. Police records presented in court indicated the durations of their unauthorized stay ranged from 238 to 566 days.
The suspects were arrested at the scene under the provision of "in flagrante delicto" due to their immigration violations. Officer Koca informed the court that the investigation is still in its early stages and that formal communication with the Ministry of Interior will be initiated to determine further actions regarding their status.
The judge presiding over the initial hearing, ruled that the suspects remain in police custody for an additional 24 hours while the investigation continues.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the individuals will face deportation or further legal proceedings. The case remains under active investigation.
