17 people including students arrested in drug raids in Lefkosa, Famagusta and Girne

The North Cyprus Directorate of Prevention of Narcotics and Smuggling team has arrested a total of 17 people in a raid carried out in five different places including Famagusta, Lefkosa, Girne and Guzelyurt since the beginning of the new year.

Police said they arrested 17 people and seized a total of 110 grams of unlawful drugs in the raid tagged "Lightning Operation" following a tip off on Tuesday, January, 2.

According to police report, 98 grams of a substance known as a kanban type drug, 12 grams of a synthetic cannabinoid type drug, 69 grams of 500 milligrams of hemp type drug, 23 grams of fleece wrapped with 8 foils, a half-wrapped cigarette, 7 grams of flax wrapped in foil were seized in the operation. 

Among those arrested are 10 university students including one Iranian girl, one Nigerian, two Pakistani, three Libyans, Lebanese while one of the those arrested is a TRNC citizen. 

 
Police, said they found two sensitive scales, a grinder, and also seized 400 dollars, 500 euros and 2,000 Turkish Lira in cash from a drug sale in a house.

In a separate operation, in Lefkosa, police said they arrested a 23-year-old girl from Namibian at the border gate of Ledra Palace while importing 28 grams of juniper drug from the South of Cyprus to the North. 

They were all charged to court on Wednesday.
