Peter Obi says his life may be at risk ahead of 2027 election

H.E Peter Obi
Abuja, Nigeria — Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed concerns over his safety amid what he described as sustained attacks on his business interests and growing political pressure ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo on the With Chude podcast, Obi said he could not rule out the possibility of being prevented from participating in the next presidential election.

Responding to a question on whether there was a coordinated effort to stop him from contesting in 2027, Obi said, "I may not be alive."

The former Anambra State governor also alleged that his businesses have been subjected to repeated attacks, adding that the pressure extends beyond politics and has raised concerns about his personal safety.

While Obi did not provide specific details of the alleged attacks or identify those responsible, his comments have sparked renewed discussions about political intolerance, the safety of opposition figures, and the state of Nigeria's democratic process.

The interview comes amid increasing political conversations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with Obi widely expected to remain a prominent figure in Nigeria's opposition politics.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Federal Government or other relevant authorities regarding Obi's claims.
