Real Madrid set record with Club World Cup win

Real Madrid have become the first club to win the Club World Cup competition in consecutive years after claiming the trophy for the third time in the past four years, following a 1-0 victory over Gremio in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored from a free kick in the 53ed minute to help Real Madrid beat the South American outfit in the final on Saturday.

The Copa Libertadores winners Gremio were unable to match the Champions League holders, who allowed only one shot on their goal - and that was off target.

The run set by Real Madrid was only broken in 2015 by Barcelona -- the only other club to win three times.

The Club World Cup is the fifth trophy Real Madrid have lifted in 2017, a number that the club have never previously managed.
It was Ronaldo's seventh career goal in the Club World Cup -- and sixth for Madrid, putting him one ahead of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cesar Delgado for the most for a single team.

Luka Modric was named the player of the tournament.
