I’ll involve Trump if Osun election process is compromised – Davido
Afrobeats star Davido has warned that he could seek the attention of United States President Donald Trump if he believes the August 15 Osun State governorship election is compromised.
The singer made the remark during a live conversation with streamer Carter Efe, where he stressed the need for the election to be conducted freely and fairly.
Davido’s comments come with a personal stake in the contest. His uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the poll.
The singer said he would not remain silent if he believed the electoral process had been manipulated or undermined.
“I will involve Trump if anything goes wrong in the Osun election,” Davido said.
The comment immediately injects an international dimension into what is already a closely watched state election.
Davido has been openly supportive of Adeleke and has repeatedly used his considerable social-media platform to defend his uncle amid attacks from political opponents.
His latest warning also comes against the backdrop of heightened political tensions surrounding the election, with rival parties trading accusations and counter-accusations as campaigning enters its final stretch.
However, Davido did not explain during the conversation exactly what steps he would take to involve Trump or what form such intervention would take if he believed the election had been compromised.
The responsibility for conducting and safeguarding Nigeria’s elections rests with the country’s constitutional institutions, particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant security agencies.
For now, Davido’s message is unmistakable: he intends to watch the Osun election closely and says he is prepared to escalate his concerns beyond Nigeria if he believes the process is not credible.
