Family upbringing is reason I’m very accessible – Davido
Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about why he remains approachable despite his global success, saying he has never felt the need to adopt the distant persona often associated with celebrity culture.
Speaking in a recent interview, the award-winning singer explained that authenticity has always been central to his public image. While acknowledging that many entertainers prefer to cultivate an air of mystery, he said his own path has been guided by a different philosophy and the values instilled in him from an early age.
According to Davido: “I’m a different kind of person. Normally, artists are meant to package and form, but God has blessed me. What works for me might not work for others. Nigerians call it see finish, but my star will always shine.”¹
The singer attributed his outgoing nature to his upbringing, noting that he was raised in a lively household where being surrounded by family was a constant part of daily life.
Reflecting on his childhood, he said: “I grew up in a family with a lot of people. I’m the youngest of 5 kids. I grew up with my cousins in the house, so I’ve always had people around me.”²
Davido's remarks offer insight into the personal values behind his public persona, suggesting that his willingness to remain accessible stems less from a deliberate branding strategy and more from the environment in which he was raised.
