Three students arrested in north Cyprus for drug possession following police raid
Police in Lefkoşa, north Cyprus have arrested three men on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs after a targeted operation in the Küçük Kaymaklı area.
According to police testimony presented in court on Tuesday September 9, the suspects identified as — AM, AS, and AJ —were stopped around 8:30 p.m. on 8 September 2025 in the parking area of a local market. Officers from the Crime Prevention Unit deemed the vehicle suspicious and carried out a search, during which approximately 2 grams of cannabis were found hidden in a seat pocket. All three suspects were arrested at the scene.
Subsequent searches were conducted at the suspects’ residences. At AM’s home, officers discovered three rolled cigarettes believed to contain cannabis inside a bedside drawer. No illegal substances were found during searches of the other two suspects’ homes.
The seized substances have been sent to the State Chemical Laboratory to confirm their nature and weight, while the aluminum foil used for storage will be examined by the Police Fingerprint Analysis Department.
The investigation is ongoing, with police requesting additional time to complete forensic examinations and gather further evidence.
After reviewing the case, the judge ordered that the three suspects remain in custody for three days to allow police to advance their inquiries.
