17-year-old remanded for military zone violation
A 17-year-old, has been remanded in custody after being charged with violating a military restricted zone.
Police revealed that the suspect identified as H.Y.A. had previously committed the same offense in 2022.
According to the investigation, H.Y.A. allegedly concealed himself inside an unidentified truck in Mersin and entered the northern part of Cyprus without completing immigration procedures. The suspect reportedly gave a voluntary statement and admitted to the offense.
During the court hearing, police reminded the court that the suspect had already been brought before the Güzelyurt District Court on September 16, 2025, where he was ordered to remain in custody for three additional days.
Further investigations determined that in September 2022, the suspect crossed into the south through an undetermined area in Güzelyurt by unlawfully entering a military zone. On September 15, 2025, he was found to have once again entered the north illegally, this time through a first-degree military restricted area in Bostancı.
Police emphasized that the suspect confessed to his actions and accepted the charges presented against him. They argued that the offenses carry serious implications, and due to the risk of absconding, requested his detention until the conclusion of the legal proceedings.
The court judge ordered that the suspect be held in custody for a period not exceeding 22 days at the central prison until his trial concludes.
