Man to face trial for allegedly assaulting estranged wife in property dispute

A man has been granted bail of 30,000 TL after being accused of assaulting his estranged wife during an argument over property ownership in Lefkoşa.

According to testimony presented in court, the incident occurred on September 16, 2025, at around 6:00 p.m. in the garden of the suspect’s residence in Taşkınköy.

Police reported that during a dispute over who would retain the house following divorce proceedings, the suspect identified as R.Y.  allegedly physically assaulted his wife.

The victim was taken to Lefkoşa State Hospital, where medical examination revealed bruising on her neck and finger.

Police officer Tuğçe Sarıca, attached to the Domestic Violence Unit, testified that the investigation had been completed and confirmed that the suspect had no prior criminal record. She requested bail conditions be imposed.

After reviewing the evidence, the judge ruled that R.Y. be released on strict bail terms. These include a ban on leaving the country, a cash deposit of 30,000 TL, two guarantors signing bonds of 700,000 TL each, and a requirement to report to police once a week.

The case will proceed under these conditions while awaiting trial.
