A man was brought before the Lefkoşa District Court on Saturday on charges of drug possession following his arrest during a police operation in the city.

Testifying in court, the police stated that on August 15, 2025, at around 12:00 p.m., police officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle on Şht. Mustafa Ahmet Ruso Street after he was deemed suspicious. A search of the car led to the discovery of 13 aluminum foil packets containing approximately 13 grams of cannabis, believed to be a controlled substance.

The suspect identified as L.C., a foreign student in north Cyprus was arrested on the spot.

Following the arrest, police conducted a search of the suspect’s residence under a court order. During the search, officers found an additional aluminum foil packet containing around 1 gram of cannabis, which was seized as evidence.

The officer told the court that the investigation is ongoing, with further statements to be taken and the seized substances sent for analysis. He requested that the suspect remain in custody for three days to allow the investigation to proceed without obstruction.

The senior judge approved the request, ordering that the suspect be remanded in police custody for three days.
