Man found living illegally in Northern Cyprus for over a year remanded

A man has been remanded in custody in Northern Cyprus after authorities discovered he had been living in the country illegally for 380 days, police said on Saturday.

The man, identified as JU, a Pakistan national was detained during a police inspection in Güzelyurt on August 16, when checks revealed his residency permit had expired on July 30, 2024.

He was arrested on the spot. Police said procedures for his deportation would begin and investigations would determine whether he committed any other offences during his stay.

A district court judge ordered that he remain in custody for two days.
