Greek Cypriot man detained for stealing razor blade in a north shop supermarket

A Greek Cypriot man has been remanded in custody for seven days after allegedly stealing a razor from a supermarket in Demirhan, north Cyprus.

The suspects identified as SGN was brought before the Lefkoşa District Court on Monday August 18 charged with theft.

The police in a statement stated that on August 5, 2025, at around 8:35 a.m., the suspect entered the Erülkü Supermarket in Demirhan. 

According to police testimony, the suspect removed a razor, valued at ₺1,100, from its packaging in the cosmetics section and concealed it in his trouser pocket before leaving the store without making payment.

The incident was reported to police on August 12, after which the suspect was identified through security camera footage. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued.

Police confirmed that SGN was apprehended on August 16 at the Metehan Border Crossing, in accordance with the arrest warrant. During questioning, the suspect admitted to the offense.

Citing the need for further investigation, police requested additional detention. 

After reviewing the testimony, the judge ordered that the suspect remain in custody for seven days while inquiries continue.
