Cyprus man remanded over alleged sexual assault

A man identified as N.K. was brought before the Lefkoşa District Court on Sunday in connection with allegations of sexually assaulting his 24-year-old niece at a residence in Haspolat.

According to police testimony, the incident allegedly occurred on the night of August 15, 2025, at the suspect’s brother’s home. Demirhan Police Station officer Zafer İnce told the court that N.K. entered the bathroom area of the property, where he allegedly committed sexual assault and harassment against his niece without her consent.

The complaint was reported to police the same night, but the suspect could not initially be located. A warrant for his arrest was issued by the Lefkoşa District Court, and he was detained the following day, August 16.

The police informed the court that the investigation is still at an early stage, with additional witness statements pending. He argued that releasing the suspect could compromise the inquiry, and therefore requested his detention.

The presiding Judge ordered that N.K. remain in police custody for two days while the investigation continues.

The suspect denied the allegations in court.
