Two remanded following drug raid in Lefkoşa

Lefkoşa, Cyprus – July 20, 2025 — Two suspects arrested during a narcotics operation in Lefkoşa have been ordered to remain in custody for an additional eight days as the investigation continues.

The suspects; KA (23) and BCŞ (26) were brought before the court after being charged with unlawful possession of controlled substances. The operation was carried out by the Special Operations Unit (CÖŞ) of the Lefkoşa Police Directorate on July 17, 2025, around 3:00 PM.

The police stated that a search was conducted at KA's residence and vehicle. During the operation, officers seized approximately 8 grams of a substance believed to be an illegal drug, a metal grinder containing suspected drug residue, three precision digital scales, and large sums of foreign currency — including £1,210 (GBP), $850 (USD), and €460 (EUR) — believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

Following initial inquiries, police also arrested BCŞ in connection with the case.

Both suspects were previously remanded for three days on July 18. The police noted that the seized substance has been sent for laboratory analysis, but test results have not yet been received. She also informed the court that the investigation remains active, with further statements to be taken and CCTV footage still under review.

Given the ongoing nature of the case, police requested an extension of the detention period. Both suspects were given an additional eight-day detention.
