Man detained for overstaying his visa in North Cyprus

Lefkoşa, North Cyprus – A man identified as MD. Islam Hussein has been ordered to remain in police custody for three days after authorities discovered he had been residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without legal permission since 2023.

According to police testimony presented at the Lefkoşa District Court, the suspect was initially brought in on July 24, 2024, for allegedly exhibiting improper behavior. During routine immigration checks, it was determined that Hussein had overstayed his permitted duration in the country since September 7, 2023.

Police confirmed that a formal investigation had been launched into the suspect’s illegal stay. Authorities are also working to determine whether Hussein was involved in any criminal activity during his unauthorized residency.

The police noted that steps are being taken to initiate deportation procedures and that relevant institutions have been notified.

The judge approved the police’s request and ordered that the suspect remain in custody for an additional three days to ensure the smooth continuation of the investigation.
