Man arrested in Lefkoşa for allegedly stealing £550 from bag outside a shop

A man accused of stealing £550 cash from a Nike-brand waist bag left outside a shop in Lefkoşa has been apprehended thanks to security camera footage and brought before the court.

The suspect, identified as DMSM, was arrested after police determined he had stolen the bag left on a table outside a business on Şehit Mustafa Street.

The police testified in court that on June 26, 2025, at around 11:45 PM, the suspect took the black Nike waist bag, which had been left on a table by one F.A., a Lefkoşa resident. Police confirmed that £550 in cash was missing from a black wallet inside the bag.

Following the incident, police reviewed CCTV footage, identified the suspect, and arrested him under a warrant. The police stated that the £550 cash found in the suspect’s possession was seized as evidence.

The officer also noted that the suspect had made statements requiring verification, and requested a two-day detention period to continue the investigation effectively.

The judge ordered the suspect to remain in police custody for two days to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
