Major drug bust in Alsancak: Over 5kg of cannabis and cocaine seized, multiple arrests across the country

Alsancak, Cyprus – A significant quantity of illegal narcotics was seized during an anti-drug operation dubbed "Operation Alpha" conducted by the Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Directorate in Alsancak.

Authorities confirmed that 5.2 kilograms of cannabis (Skunk variety) and 35 grams of cocaine were confiscated, and a 23-year-old male suspect (D.G.) was taken into custody.

According to police reports, the raid involved a comprehensive search of the suspect’s person, vehicle, and residence. In addition to the drugs, a precision scale believed to contain drug residue was also recovered as evidence. The suspect was arrested on-site and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Drug-Related Arrests at Ercan Airport

In a separate incident at Ercan International Airport, a 33-year-old male (S.Y.) was arrested around 7:00 a.m. after exhibiting suspicious behavior while attempting to travel abroad. During a search, authorities discovered a grinder suspected of containing drug residue in his possession. The suspect was detained for further questioning.

Additionally, a 22-year-old man was also arrested at Ercan Airport while attempting to leave the country. He is accused of selling drugs to E.Ö.K., a suspect previously arrested following a traffic accident in Boğazköy on July 17. At the scene of that accident, police discovered 0.5 grams of suspected narcotics and a drug-laced pipe in the vehicle driven by E.Ö.K. (24), who was promptly arrested.

Subsequent investigations linked the substance to A.B.G. (22), who was apprehended at the airport. Authorities also found a precision scale and grinder with suspected drug residue in his possession. Another suspect, P.G. (21), was arrested in connection with the same case.

One Gram of Synthetic Cannabinoids Seized in Lefkoşa

Meanwhile, in Lefkoşa, police raided the residence of I.S. (42), where approximately one gram of synthetic cannabinoid was found. The suspect was immediately taken into custody.

All investigations are ongoing, and authorities reaffirm their commitment to cracking down on narcotics distribution and use across the country.
