Four injured as vehicle overturns on Girne-Tatlısu highway

Girne, Cyprus – July 20, 2025 — A serious traffic accident on the Girne-Tatlısu main road on Saturday afternoon left four individuals injured after a vehicle lost control and overturned into a roadside water channel.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the incident occurred around 2:40 PM between the 14th and 15th kilometers of the highway. The driver, 47-year-old Ayla Dalyan Karaca, was traveling eastbound from Girne toward Tatlısu in a vehicle when she reportedly lost control of the car. The vehicle veered off the road, plunged into a water drainage channel, and overturned.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene. The driver, Ayla Dalyan Karaca, and one of the passengers, 27-year-old Bahar Özcan, were transported to Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital for treatment. Two other passengers, Baran Özcan (27) and Burak Keskin, were taken to Girne Dr. Akçiçek Hospital.

Authorities confirmed that all four individuals sustained injuries and remain under medical care. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.

Police have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the accident, which is believed to have resulted from driver inattention.
