NBA star Kevin Durant acquires minority stake in PSG
Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant has acquired a minority ownership stake in French football powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the club announced on Friday.
The investment comes through a strategic partnership between Durant and Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), PSG’s majority owner. While financial details were not disclosed, the agreement marks a significant addition to Durant’s expanding sports investment portfolio.
“Under the terms of the partnership, Durant — through his media and investment company Boardroom, co-founded with longtime business partner Rich Kleiman — will acquire a direct minority stake in the club,” PSG confirmed in a statement.
Durant, 36, is a two-time NBA champion and one of the league’s most prolific scorers. He made Olympic history last summer in Paris by becoming the first men’s basketball player to win four gold medals.
“It is an honor to partner with QSI and be a shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain — a club and city that are very close to my heart,” Durant said in the announcement. “This club has big plans, and I look forward to contributing to its next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI.”
The deal also includes collaboration between Boardroom Sports Holdings — Durant’s personal investment vehicle — and QSI on a range of ventures, including commercial initiatives, content production, and broader investment strategies.
Durant’s involvement will support PSG’s international expansion plans, particularly in the U.S. market, and help develop the club’s multi-sport strategy, including future ventures in basketball.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi welcomed the partnership, stating, “Together with Kevin, we look forward to developing ambitious initiatives that will drive the continued global growth of Paris Saint-Germain and QSI.”
This isn’t Durant’s first foray into team ownership. In 2020, he acquired a 5% stake in Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union.
The announcement also comes at a time when the NBA, FIBA, and other organizations are exploring the idea of launching a new basketball league in Europe — a development that could align with PSG’s multi-sport ambitions.
