Illegal taxi driver fined over 140,000 Turkish Lira in north Cyprus
Lefkoşa Traffic Branch has issued a substantial fine of 143,984 Turkish Lira to an unlicensed taxi operating illegally on Dereboyu Caddesi.
The driver was also penalized with 195 demerit points and had their driver’s license confiscated.
According to a taxi driver who spoke to Kıbrıs Postası, the illegal taxi was detected around 11:00 PM on Thursday night (June 19). Following a report made to the Lefkoşa Traffic Branch patrols, police swiftly took enforcement action against the unauthorized vehicle.
“The police initiated the necessary legal procedures and imposed a fine of 143,984 TL on the unlicensed taxi,” the taxi driver stated. He further noted that the driver did not comply with police warnings, which caused dangerous situations on the road.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of Lefkoşa’s taxi drivers, he added, “We thank the Lefkoşa Police Directorate and traffic patrols for their efforts. However, we call for stricter measures and harsher penalties under the illegal taxi law to deter such violations.”
