Two students remanded in custody in Girne for drug possession; Third suspect at large

Girne, May 20, 2025 – Two individuals arrested in connection with drug possession in Girne have been remanded in custody for up to 75 days, pending trial while a third suspect, who was reportedly residing at the same address, is currently being sought by police.

The suspects; EOE and CHU were brought before the Girne District Court following their arrest for drug-related offenses.

Police prosecutor told the court that on May 8, 2025, between 9:40 PM and 10:10 PM, a search was conducted at a residence on Şht. Süleyman Çamlıgil Street, where both suspects were staying. During the search, police discovered approximately 10 grams of a substance believed to be a controlled drug, one tablet suspected to contain narcotics (blue and green in color), two blotters believed to contain a narcotic substance, and an additional 5 grams of suspected drugs.

Both suspects were arrested at the scene. The police also noted that a third individual, identified as C.İ.N., who was living at the same address, is currently wanted by authorities.

The officer informed the court that the portion of the investigation involving the two arrested suspects has been completed and requested that they be held in custody pending trial to prevent flight risk.

The presiding judge evaluated the evidence presented and ordered that the two of them be remanded in prison for a period not exceeding 75 days while the investigation continues.

The search for the third suspect is ongoing.
