Turkish warships will be open for visits at Girne and Mağusa ports to celebrate May 19 Youth Day
Today is May 19th, the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day is being celebrated in Turkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with ceremonies.
As part of the May 19th celebrations, Turkish warships have been opened for public visits at north Cyprus ports.
According to a written statement from the Security Forces Command, as part of the May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, the Turkish Naval Forces Command’s combat units, TCG Doğanay and TCG Karataş Patrol Ship, will visit TRNC ports.
The statement announced that the TCG Doğanay submarine will be open to the public at the Girne Tourism Port from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 5pm, while the TCG Karataş ship will be open at the Gazimağusa Port.
To celebrate the day, a state ceremony in Lefkoşa took place at 9am in front of the Atatürk Monument.
During the ceremony, a moment of silence was observed, and flags were raised to the accompaniment of the National Anthem.
Later in the ceremony, soil brought from Anıtkabir, Turkiye was presented to President Ersin Tatar by the Turkish ambassador to Lefkoşa, Ali Murat Başçeri.
At 6pm, the “106th Year Parade” will take place with the participation of students and teachers from central schools and universities in Lefkoşa, federations affiliated with the Sports Department, clubs and associations, non-governmental organizations, and the public.
The May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day is also being celebrated with ceremonies in other districts.
