Kanye West concert in South Korea cancelled over ‘controversies’
South Korean e-commerce giant Coupang (CPNG.N) has cancelled a Kanye West concert originally scheduled for late May, citing "recent controversies involving the artist," according to statements released Monday by the company and ticket vendor Interpark.
Neither Coupang nor Interpark provided specific details about the controversies surrounding West, who now goes by the name Ye.
The rapper’s most recent controversy stems from a song released this month titled “Heil Hitler,” in which he expresses admiration for the Nazi dictator responsible for the Holocaust.
Previously, Adidas terminated its collaboration with West in October 2022 following a string of antisemitic remarks. The final batch of Yeezy-branded shoes was sold in March.
Coupang and Interpark confirmed that full refunds would be issued for all tickets purchased for the May 31 concert in Incheon. Additionally, Coupang Play, the company’s streaming platform and concert organizer, has suspended sales of West’s Yeezy fashion merchandise as of Monday.
