Student arrested in Girne on drug possession charges
Girne, TRNC: A student, was brought before the court in Girne following his arrest on charges crimes.
The suspect identified as CEM, a Nigerian resident in Kyrenia was arrested on Friday May 9 on drug possession charges.
According to police testimony in court, the Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Department executed a court-ordered search at the suspect’s residence around 9:20 p.m. on May 9, 2025.
During the search, police discovered approximately 8 grams of a substance believed to be an illegal narcotic, wrapped in four pieces of aluminum foil, inside a drawer of a nightstand in the suspect’s bedroom. Additionally, a rolled cigarette suspected to contain a mixture of tobacco and illegal substances was also found. All items were seized as evidence.
The suspect was immediately arrested at the scene. Police confirmed that the suspect has given a statement and that an investigation is underway to determine the source of the narcotics.
It was also revealed that the suspect is a wanted individual, and the seized materials have been sent for laboratory analysis.
Based on the evidence presented, the judge approved the police’s request for an extended detention period and ruled that the suspect remain in custody for an additional 72 hours.
The investigation continues.
