School bus overturns in Karpaz region: 29 injured

YENİERENKÖY — A serious traffic accident involving a school bus occurred this afternoon on a secondary road east of Yenierenköy High School, causing widespread panic in the region. 

 

The incident resulted in injuries to the bus driver and 28 students.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the accident took place at around 1:00 PM while 32-year-old Yahya Güngör was driving a school bus on the Yenierenköy–Dipkarpaz route. While traveling northbound, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and overturned.

Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene, and all injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals. The bus driver and 21 students were taken to Gazimağusa State Hospital, while 7 students were transferred to Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital. One of the students initially admitted to Gazimağusa was later referred to Lefkoşa for further evaluation and treatment.

In total, 29 individuals — 28 students and the bus driver — sustained injuries in the crash. The condition of the injured is currently being monitored, and medical treatment is ongoing.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
