Repeat offender arrested in Girne drug bust following police operation

An individual was arrested by the Crime Prevention Unit (CÖŞ) of the Girne Police Directorate during a targeted operation after authorities discovered a substantial quantity of illegal drugs and cash in his vehicle.

The operation, carried out on May 25, 2025, around 6:30 p.m., led to the seizure of approximately 30 grams of cannabis, 5 grams of cocaine, and 45,400 TL in cash—believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

According to police reports, the operation was the result of a successful surveillance effort. Officers from the CÖŞ unit intercepted Kavaz’s vehicle and conducted a thorough search, uncovering the illegal substances and cash, which have since been taken as evidence.

Following the search, the suspect MK was taken into custody. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

It has also been revealed that the suspect has a prior criminal record for similar offenses. In 2023, Kavaz was convicted on drug-related charges and served a three-year prison sentence.

Authorities are continuing their inquiry to determine the full extent of Kavaz’s alleged involvement in drug trafficking activities.
