Kıb-Tek to go on strike indefinitely on Monday

The Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Workers’ Union (EL-SEN) has announced that it was will be staging an indefinite strike as of Monday.

A statement by the trade union cited attempts to prevent investments and introduce price hike polices as reasons for the strike.

EL-SEN President Kubilay Özkıraç spoke on BRT said that they had discussed the matter both with the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman and Economy and Energy Minister Özdil Nami.

Minister Nami told me that he had removed the Chairman of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Ahmet Hüdaoğlu from his post. Our decision to go on strike has nothing to do with this decision. We are opposed to the privatization of the electricity authority, to efforts aimed at preventing investments and introducing price hike policies. This is why we are going on strike, he said.
