TRNC minister in favor of the continuing the current system of guarantees on the island
Ozersay made the comment on Wednesday night after the 2019 budget amounting to 40,844,600 Turkish lira (€6.7 million) was passed by ‘parliament.’
In his speech during the discussion, Ozersay said his party was in favour of continuing the current system of guarantees on the island and the issue of territory could be discussed at the last stage of negotiations.
He also said there was no common view between the two sides on matters of political equality and the distribution of powers.
President of the National Unity Party Ersin Tatar said the Turkish Cypriots should not support a solution to the Cyprus problem without military presence and guarantees.
Tatar also said the party does not accept the Guterres framework as a basis for negotiations.
Leader of the settlers party Erhan Arikli said that Turkey should have a naval and military base in the occupied areas. He also said the ‘parliament’ should discuss the issue of the return of Maronites to their villages.
Other members of the National Unity Party criticised the TRNC presidents, Mustafa Akinci’s approach to the talks and said that federation is not the only model for a solution.
‘MP’ Hussein Angolemli said the Turkish Cypriots should consider themselves lucky to have Akinci to represent them and said the Turkish Cypriots want a solution as soon as possible but it is the Greek Cypriots that are holding up a solution.
Representatives of the Turkish Republican Party called for political equality and Turkish Cypriot rights to share in the natural gas found around the island.
