Two students to remain in north Cyprus prison for a month pending trial over drug related offense

Two students who were arrested for drug related offenses in separate incident has been ordered to remain in prison as unconvicted prisoners for a month pending their trial.

According to the report by Turkish Cypriot daily, Kibris, Matengu and one other suspect were charged to court following an investigation initiated after they were caught with 28-gram of drug on Tuesday, January 2.

Another suspect Lisa, who is said to have crossed the border from Ledra Palace Border Gate from north Cyprus to south Cyprus and found with 28 grams of narcotic substance on November 30 was also charged to court. 

Two of the suspects Lisa and Matengu, who were said to have reportedly imported and sold about a combined 194 grams of drugs from south to north, on five different dates in one month were sent to prison. 

Two other accused who are awaiting trial and arrested for receiving 5 gram of drugs, gave voluntarily testimony against Lisa and Matengu. 

They were all charged for "importing, exporting and saving illegal drugs" at the Lefkosa accident court.

Lisa, a university student who gave testimony to the police, said she did it to pay her rent. 

One of the accused was banned from traveling out of the country by the court judge and ordered to hand over his travel documents to police, with a deposit of 5,000 Turkish liras and to report to the police once a week.
