TRNC observes Martyrs remembrance week

The National Struggle and Martyrs Week starts tomorrow Thursday 21 December to Monday, 25 December in memory of the martyrs who fell during the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence and the resistance put up against Greek Cypriot attacks on Turkish Cypriot villages and towns.

The week is being marked with numerous events in memory of the martyrs
Turkish Cypriots were forced out of the partnership state mechanism by Greek Cypriots who launched attacks towards achieving the goal of Union with Greece on the 21^st of December 1963.

Events for the remembrance week will include the laying of a wreath at the Martyrs Monument in Lefkoşa and a remembrance program at the Atatürk Culture Centre in Lefkoşa.

Also, a separate ‘Martyrs Remembrance program’ will take place at the Near East University’s Atatürk Cultural Centre in Lefkoşa.

Similar ceremonies are also being held throughout other major towns and cities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The Türkeli Martyrs will be remembered on Saturday while a ceremony will be held for the Kumsal Raid Martyrs on Sunday, the 24^th of December.

Ceremonies to remember the Küçük Kaymaklı Martyrs-Martyr Hüseyin Ruso will be remembered on Monday, the 26^th of December.
