The number of international students admitted into universities in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus has
fallen by 10% compared to last year’s figures, according to report.
The report say the drop is equivalent to one thousand fewer students.
According to the report by ‘Havadis’, 11,925 students were admitted into universities in the TRNC last year, but this year the number fell to 10,795 students.
The decline in the number of international students opting to study at TRNC universities will have a negative effect on the economy, the report say.
The university most affect in the island is the Eastern Mediterranean University (DAU) which saw the biggest loss. In 2016, they had 2,205 student registrations, but this year, the number fell to 1,622.
