Donald Trump Jr likened Syrian refugees to ''poisoned sweets''

US: Son of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump Jr has likened Syrian refugees to a bowl of poisoned Skittles in a message he posted on Twitter on Tuesday.

Trump Jr who was seeking to promote his father's US presidential bid posted a tweet featuring a bowl of Skittles sweets with a warning.

The Tweet on the verified @DonaldTrumpJr handle reads;

"If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you, would you take a handful?''

"That's our Syrian refugee problem,'' said the tweet, which has since caused a stir and negative tweets on the internet from the public.

"This image says it all. Let's end the politically correct agenda that doesn't put America first.'' He tweeted.

Donald Trump has frequently called for the prevention of immigrants from entering the US as against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton whom he accused of advocating the acceptance of tens of thousands of refugees.

Trump Jr's tweet came as world leaders meeting at the United Nations on Monday approved a declaration aimed at providing a more co-ordinated and humane response to the global refugee crisis, of which Syrians are a major part of.
