Dutch woman given one year prison sentence in Qatar after rape

Qatar: A Qatari court in the capital city of Doha has handed a 22 year old Dutch tourist in Qatar a one year suspended prison sentence for having extramarital sex after she had reported being raped.
On Monday, The Foreign Ministry in the Hague, the court fined the woman the equivalent of 750 euros ($A1,145) and ordered her extradition.

According to the woman, she said someone had drugged her and the next thing she became aware of was waking up with torn clothes in a strange flat, her lawyer Brian Lokollo told Dutch television at the weekend.
The police arrested her when she reported the rape to the police.
Sex outside marriage is banned in Qatar.
Dutch media reports said, the alleged rapist has also been arrested and sentenced to 140 lashes but he denied the claims.
The woman has been in prison since March.
