Cyprus update: Cyprus leaders to resume talks: to map out stepped-up peace talks on June 8

Cyprus: Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa  Akinci during an event organized by the bi-communal Technical Committee on Education in Nicosia on Thursday, has agreed to put behind the crises rocking the negotiations and decide to meet on June 8 to map out
the next phase of stepped-up talks aimed at reunifying the ethnically divided island by the end of the year.
The announcement by both leaders finally put an end to a diplomatic spat that temporary put negotiations on hold last week.
Recall that Cyprus president Anastasiades called off a scheduled meeting with Akinci last week over what he saw as an attempt by the UN to diplomatically upgrade the Turkish Cypriots when Akinci was invited to a state dinner by Turkey during U.N-sponsored summit in Istanbul on May 23.
The announcement comes after both leaders attended an event that brought together 100 fifth-grade students from either side of the divide.
