I will jail anyone who rigs election under my administration – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has vowed to jail anyone who rigs election under his administration.

Obi made this vow on Thursday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, noting that the punishment would apply even where only one vote was involved.

Outlining his position on electoral integrity, opposition politics and democratic governance ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Obi said: 

“I’ve said it, and I’ll say it again: if I am the serving president of this country, whoever rigs elections will be in jail. Even for one vote, you will be in jail”.

Obi also promised that political parties, including opposition parties, would not be harassed under his administration, stressing that his government would involve them in decisions affecting the country.
