Uriel Oputa rejects marriage pressure, says dating pool needs Jesus
In a pointed social media post, the former Big Brother Naija housemate turned the spotlight on what she described as the realities of modern dating, questioning whether those demanding that older single women settle down have actually considered what is available in today’s dating pool.
She wrote: “DATING IN 2026TO EVERYONE SCREAMING AT WOMEN OVER 30 TO ‘GO AND GET MARRIED!’ — HAVE YOU ACTUALLY SEEN THE DATING POOL?! NOBODY COMMUNICATES, NOBODY IS HONEST ABOUT INTENTIONS, AND EVERYBODY WANTS SOMETHING WITHOUT SAYING WHAT IT IS.ME? I KNOW MY WORTH. I’M NOT TAKING ON SOMEBODY’S SON JUST TO DEVELOP HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. MY BP IS A PEACEFUL 111/80 — PLEASE, I BEG YOU, LET IT REMAIN THAT WAY.THESE DAYS MARRIAGE IS NOT WORTH LOSING MY PEACE OVER. THE DATING POOL NEEDS JESUS, CHLORINE, AND A COMPLETE WATER CHANGE.”
The message echoes concerns Oputa has raised previously about relationships, marriage and the expectations placed on single women.
In March 2026, she similarly declared that marriage does not define her and said she would not rush into a union at the expense of her safety or peace of mind. “I am not late, and I will never rush into anything that compromises my peace,” she said at the time.
Her views have also been shaped by earlier experiences. In a 2025 interview, Oputa spoke candidly about the pressure she once felt to marry, revealing that she had become desperate to settle down before meeting a man who, in her words, “showed me pepper—crocodile pepper.” She also criticised the age-shaming of women in their 30s and 40s, saying many are made to feel like “expired milk.”
That frustration appears to have strengthened her resolve not to settle simply for the sake of having a husband.
Oputa has also maintained that she is open to love but wants substance rather than appearances. In April 2026, she said she could no longer date a man without drive or one who would depend financially on her, explaining that she works hard and does not want a relationship that leaves her struggling.
Her position is therefore less about rejecting marriage than rejecting marriage at any cost.
For Oputa, being single beyond 30 is not an emergency requiring intervention from family, friends or social media commentators. If the alternative is a relationship that brings anxiety, disrespect or a loss of peace, she would rather remain single.
And, judging by her latest post, she has no intention of allowing the calendar—or public opinion—to make that decision for her.
