Taylor Swift songs removed from White House, Trump campaign posts amid dispute

Several Taylor Swift songs have been removed from social-media videos posted by US President Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House, reviving the long-running tension between the pop superstar and the Republican president.

The removals came after Trump’s campaign and White House accounts repeatedly used Swift’s music in political content, including videos posted over the past week.

Neither Swift’s representatives nor the White House immediately explained the removals. It also remains unclear whether the action was prompted by Swift herself, her representatives, copyright enforcement or another licensing issue.

The development is notable because Swift has previously made her political position clear. She endorsed Trump’s Democratic opponent, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, during the 2024 presidential campaign and had publicly criticised Trump during the 2020 election cycle.

Trump, in turn, has repeatedly attacked the singer.

After Swift endorsed Harris, Trump wrote on social media: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” He later questioned whether the singer had lost popularity after his criticism of her.

Trump campaign played with Swift’s lyrics

The Trump campaign had used Swift’s music in TikTok videos while adapting the titles and lyrics of her songs to promote political messages.

One video featured captions including “Red (Donald Trump’s Version)” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (The Biden Harris Administration)”, alongside references to Trump’s political agenda.

Another campaign video used Swift’s song “I Knew It, I Knew You”, which was released in connection with Toy Story 5. The clip showed Trump interacting with children at the White House, attending a UFC event and appearing at a rally.

The campaign captioned the video: “Nobody loves our country & the American People more than @President Donald J Trump.”

The use of Swift’s music was not an isolated incident.

White House has also used her music

The White House has incorporated Swift songs into official social-media content as well.

In April, a White House video featuring the Artemis II crew meeting Trump used Swift’s “High Infidelity.”

Another White House TikTok video posted in November featured “The Fate of Ophelia”, from Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl album, alongside footage of Trump, US flags and national landmarks.

That post generated significant online reaction, prompting a White House spokesperson to say the video had been made because the administration knew news organisations would “breathlessly amplify” it.

The latest removals therefore add another chapter to an increasingly unusual clash between one of the world’s biggest pop stars and a president who has frequently criticised her.

Swift is not alone

The dispute also comes amid a broader disagreement between artists and Trump’s administration over the use of commercially successful music in political messaging.

Artists including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande have previously objected to their music being associated with Trump administration content.

Trump’s communications team has continued to use popular music as a backdrop for videos highlighting the president’s policies and activities, including immigration enforcement, military operations and high-profile arrests.

For Swift, the situation is particularly striking given the president’s history of attacking her and the singer’s support for his political opponents.

For now, however, the central question remains unanswered: who triggered the latest removals, and why?

Swift’s camp has not publicly claimed responsibility, leaving the disappearance of her songs from Trump-linked videos as the latest unexplained development in their long-running public feud.
