Davido threatens legal action against South African woman over viral screenshot

Afrobeats star Davido has pushed back against viral screenshots purporting to show him privately messaging a South African woman identified as Lethabo, insisting that the alleged Instagram exchange is fabricated.

The screenshots circulating online appeared to show an account bearing the singer’s identity complimenting Lethabo’s appearance before asking about the origin of her name.

One of the messages attributed to Davido read: “Hey, you are such a pretty girl. Lethabo is a rare name. Where are you from?”

But Davido was quick to reject the alleged conversation, arguing that the screenshots do not match the appearance of his actual Instagram message interface.

The singer took to social media to question the person behind the images and threatened legal action over what he described as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

“Who’s this bastard! Better stop it before you get your dùmb ass sued! Stop f^cking around. “Its adults really believing that the screenshots are real. ? “Thats just a teenager fishing for attention online, and yall falling for it”.

Davido subsequently pointed out what he said were differences between the circulating images and the genuine Instagram messaging layout, reinforcing his claim that the screenshots were not authentic. A social-media post reproducing his response also captured his emphasis on the differences in the message interface.

The controversy has nevertheless generated debate online, with social-media users divided between those questioning the screenshots and others insisting that the alleged exchange was genuine.

At the time of reporting, there is no independent evidence establishing that the purported Instagram conversation actually took place. Davido's position remains that the screenshots are fake and that the person responsible was seeking attention online.

The episode adds to the increasingly familiar social-media problem of fabricated screenshots being presented as private conversations involving celebrities—a trend that can rapidly turn an unverified image into a viral controversy before its authenticity is established.
